EMERGENCY | Get a Plan
Do you or your children know what to do in the event your community or home is affected by a flood, storm, fire, or another disaster?
UNFORTUNATELY, MOST FAMILIES DO NOT…
Many people also don’t recognize that when an emergency occurs, it is very unlikely you will all be in the same place.
This is why making an emergency family plan NOW is so important AND WE HAVE A FEW SUGGESTIONS…
Tougas Family Emergency Plan
Tougas Mitigation and Restoration wants to make it easy for you to create a family disaster plan. The Tougas Family Emergency Plan is designed to allow you to enter specific information about your family’s plan – your designated safe meeting place, each family member’s contact information, and what to do in certain situations.
Don’t Forget Emergency Supplies
Families should plan to have a supply of water, food, and other necessities in the case of emergencies. Tougas recommends putting together an “Emergency Ready Kit” and leaving it in an accessible place. We also recommend your kit, at a minimum, contain the list of items below:
Water: one gallon per person, per day for a minimum of three days
Food: at least a 3-day supply of non-perishable food
Clothing: change of clothing and a sleeping bag for each person
Battery-powered or hand-crank radio, an NOAA Weather Radio, extra batteries
Cell Phone + Charger
Flashlight + Extra Batteries
First Aid Kit
FIRST AID KIT SHOULD INCLUDE:
Adhesive Bandages
Antibiotic Ointment Pain Reliever
Emergency Mylar Blanket
Thermometer
Prescription Medications + Supplies.
Waterproof, Portable Containers – for IDs, insurance policies, bank account records, etc. Store a second set of records off-site.
Make it a point to know about the disaster plans for your employer, school, community, etc. Be aware of where your closest designated emergency shelter is and make sure all of your family members know how to get there on their own. Memorize your plan with your family at least two times a year and practice.
Having a plan in place will help you and your family be better prepared when dealing with the aftermath of a disaster. We want you to take all the precautions necessary to ensure the safety of your family and community. Take a moment to create an Emergency Action Plan for your family or business.
